Congratulations on your engagement, and thank you for inquiring about St. Mary, Our Lady of the Isle Parish on Nantucket for your wedding. I hope and pray that your married life together will be filled with an abundance of love and joy. I look forward to working with you as you plan your wedding.

If the following guidelines apply to you and your family then we will be able to work with you to plan your celebration of the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony.

The couple to be married must have a connection to the Parish.   Either the bride or the groom should be a registered participating member of St. Mary’s with a residential connection or have someone in their immediate or extended family (i.e., grandparents aunt or uncle) with a residential connection to Nantucket who regularly and actively practice their faith with us.  St. Mary's reserves the celebration of the sacrament of marriage to registered parishioners who are regular, practicing Catholics with us and for their immediate family members.  Please understand that due to the number of wedding requests we receive each year there can be NO EXCEPTIONS to this policy.

Either the bride OR the groom must be a Baptized, Confirmed and Practicing Catholic.

Both the bride AND the groom must be free to marry in the Catholic Church according to Canon Law. This means that neither party has been previously married. If there IS a previous marriage, you must have a declaration of nullity from a Catholic Church Tribunal before a wedding date can be set.

If not living here full time,  the bride and / or the groom must be a registered parishioner, practicing their faith where they live. We will require a letter from the bride’s or the groom’s pastor confirming that they are registered, practicing Catholics, and giving us permission to perform their wedding ceremony here. If the couple does not live here permanently, all marriage preparation must take place in the Catholic Parish where the couple resides.

Arrangements for Marriage must be made at least 8 months before your desired wedding date.
