Dear Friends,

     One of my favorite Psalms is Psalm 139. The verse that speaks so clearly to me is, “You knit me together in my mother’s womb.” The great care God takes in creating us, with the cooperation of our parents and nature, is marvelous to ponder. We are indeed “fearfully and wonderfully made.” I encourage you to spend some time in prayer with that beautiful Psalm.    

     Since God takes such great care in creating us and protecting us, we should all be concerned and saddened by the horrendous new law “enshrining abortion rights” which was signed by our governor this past week. Among other things, this law removes the previous statutory restrictions that limited abortions after 24 weeks to specific medical circumstances and instead leaves the decision to the professional judgment of the physician. This should be a matter of grave concern for all who believe in the dignity and sacredness of human life.    

     Some might think I am getting too political. But this isn’t simply about politics. It is about justice and human rights, which necessarily play themselves out in the laws of our Commonwealth. And, to be clear, the law of God supersedes the laws of any government.

     I pray for Governor Healey and for all of our leaders. I wish no one ill will or harm. Please pray for the respect of all human life, from conception to natural death. Pray for a conversion of heart for all who believe this is a good thing. But let us also pray for ourselves, that we may always have the courage and compassion to promote a culture of life and to support mothers, fathers, and children in need.
