Dear Friends,

  Summer is a time for taking a break.  I am taking a little break from writing a column this weekend.  However, since Friday was the Memorial of Pope St. Piux X, I thought it would be good to share something he said about the Eucharist.  By the way, he was the Pope who signed the decree creating the Diocese of Fall River way back in 1904; so it’s good and appropriate for us to hear from him:

“Holy Communion is the shortest and safest way to Heaven. There are others: innocence, but that is for little children; penance, but we are afraid of it; generous endurance of the trials of life, but when they come we weep and ask to be spared. The surest, easiest, shortest way is the Eucharist.” - Pope St. Pius X
