Dear Friends,

    Another summer season has come and gone. I love the summer and all the people it brings to our parish and our island. I really love seeing new faces and seeing familiar faces from summers past, but I will admit—it does feel good to be back to “normal” with our Mass schedule.

   I love our Jesuit assistants. They are a joy to be around. But I confess, in the summer I am envious of them as they celebrate Masses which I can’t, due to the schedule. There are some of you I don’t get to see for a couple of weeks at a time due to the extended schedule. I love being your priest and seeing you in church and at Mass.

   I am very happy that this weekend it is a bit quieter. I get to celebrate all three English Masses with you this weekend. That means whatever Mass you attend, I get to see you!

   This letter may seem selfish, and admittedly it is. But there’s a reason why priests are called “Father.” It’s not a title of honor or of superiority, but it illustrates the relationship we have. Humbly, I am your spiritual father (whether you like it or not). But I can tell you, nothing gives me greater joy.

   Please know of my love and affection for you all.

   You mean more to me than you will ever know. I am grateful to be your priest.
